3 Tips For Taking Your Iron Supplement

Posted on: 8 April 2019

Many people take iron supplements from companies like Neuterre to help strengthen their blood. But, iron can be hard on your system and can upset your stomach. Luckily, there are some tips that you can take advantage of that will help you to get the best results from your iron without having it upset your stomach too badly.

Try Slow-Release Iron

Slow-release iron is a time-released option. That means that you take one pill a day, and it will slowly release into your system all day long, making sure that you have the right amount of iron without causing your stomach to get upset. If you have had a hard time taking iron but your doctor wants you to try, this option might be a good idea for you.

Take on an Empty Stomach

Iron is one of those medications that is best to take on an empty stomach. If you have to, you can eat a little bit of something at the same time that you take your pills, but not a full meal, just a light snack. You will want to wait at least 2 hours after you have finished eating to take your meds; that will give your stomach plenty of time to empty. If you take calcium or need to take antacids, do not take them at the same time, and you should avoid eating any dairy products when you are taking your pills, so pass on that ice cream. The calcium keeps the iron from absorbing properly into your blood system, which will defeat the whole purpose of you taking the iron. You can also take your iron supplement about an hour before you eat; that will let the medication start to enter your system.

Experiment With Time

While you should ideally take your iron supplement first thing in the morning, that may leave you with an upset stomach all day long. What you might want to try is taking the pill at night instead. If your stomach is going to be upset by the pill, taking it at night will let you sleep through that discomfort. That way you aren't going to have to deal with it, and you are still going to get the results that you want.

If you want to take iron supplements, you want to make sure that you are doing everything you can to get the best results from it.

getting special diet foods easily

Have you ever had to find foods for a child with a limited dietary allowance? I have a young niece that I babysit through the week. This little girl isn't allowed to have anything with glucose, sucrose or lactose. Do you know how many foods this excludes from her diet? I started looking into different health food companies trying to find things that she would like but that wouldn't put her glucose levels in danger. My blog is filled with healthy eating tips, information about finding foods for special needs diets and how to go about getting what you need for your family without breaking the bank.
